Two held for sharing picture of rape victim on social media

The district police have booked cases against two persons who allegedly shared pictures of a rape victim on social media platforms.

Harugeri police have booked cases against Rakesh Ramsingh Nandgadkar (27), a resident of Belagavi, and another person, for violation of sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act and for violation of the sections of the Information Technology Act.

Police said sharing pictures of rape surviors or victims, which discloses their identity is an offense.

The accused duo had allegedly shared the picture of a three year old rape victim on social media platform.

The 32 year old Uddappa Ramappa Ganger after raping the toddlers had suffocated her to death.

He had also tried to bury the victim in a sugarcane field to hide the evidence. The incident was reported at Kurubagoddi at Harugeri in Raibag taluk in Belagavi district on September 21.

The police have launched a manhunt for the accused and expressed of nabbing them at the earliest.
