<p>Chikkamagaluru: Establishment of two textile parks in Chikkamagaluru district is now closer to reality.</p><p>Locations for the park have been identified and the government has granted approval for the project.</p><p>The district administration had identified Hiregowja village coming under Lakya hobli in Chikkamagaluru taluk and near Cheelanahalli village in Kadur taluk for the project and submitted a proposal to the government. </p><p>Following the guidelines, the Department of Commerce and Industries (Textiles) approved the establishment of both textile parks under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and subsequently, the Secretary of the Industries Department directed the Development Commissioner of the Handloom and Textile Department to initiate steps for the project progress.</p><p>A total of 15 acres of government land in Hiregowja (Chikkamagaluru taluk) and 25 acres near Cheelanahalli (Kadur taluk) had been allocated to the Handloom and Textile Department by the deputy commissioner before the proposal was submitted to the government.</p><p><strong>DC directive</strong></p><p>As per the deputy commissioner’s directive, the proposed textile parks must be started within three years. The land is strictly designated for the purpose and cannot be used for any other project. </p><p>If the project is not implemented, the land must be returned to the Revenue Department. Any transfer, sale, or temporary use of the land for other purposes is also prohibited.</p><p><strong>PPP model</strong></p><p>With the approval now granted, the Textile Department will initiate the tender process for setting up the parks under the PPP mode. The government will provide land, water, and electricity facilities, while private companies interested in establishing the textile parks will be responsible for constructing buildings and other necessary infrastructure.</p><p>According to officials, if a single company takes over the entire land and sets up textile units, the project will be allotted to that company. Otherwise, the land will be distributed based on the interests of various textile industries.</p><p><strong>In Hiregowja</strong> </p><p>The identified land near Hiregowja is adjacent to the national highway, making it a strategic location for setting up garment factories and ready-made clothing manufacturing units. This project is expected to create significant employment opportunities, particularly for women, with an estimated 3,000 direct jobs, local sources said.</p><p>Additionally, as factories begin operations, indirect employment opportunities will also emerge. The surrounding land value is likely to increase, and Chikkamagaluru City is expected to expand towards the east, sources added.</p><p><strong>In Cheelanahalli</strong> </p><p>In Cheelanahalli where 25 acres have been allocated, the project is expected to generate over 5,000 direct job opportunities, informed an official.</p>
