Udupi theft: Two held, gold worth Rs 5.60 lakh recovered by police

Udupi: Karkala police swiftly solved a house theft within 24 hours of case registration by arresting two persons and recovering stolen gold.

According to the police, the arrested people have been identified as Anand Kulal (40), from Palejeddu, Byarampalli village, Udupi taluk, and Jayaram Acharya (54), resident of Ajekar Marne village in Karkala taluk.

In a complaint, Shankar Kulal, from Pattonji Katte in Karkala said that unidentified thieves broke open the door of his house between 9:10 am on April 23 and 6 pm on April 24 and decamped with gold ornaments kept inside a cupboard, including one gold necklace weighing about 24 grams, three gold rings weighing about 3 grams, and other gold ornaments.

The total estimated value of the stolen gold was around Rs 2.64 lakh.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Karkala Town Police Station under Sections 331(3), 331(4) and 305 of the BNS.

Under the leadership of Karkala Sub-Divisional Police Officer Vijayaprasad, and guidance of Police Inspector Manjappa D R, along with PSIs Murulidhar Nayak, Shivakumar S R, and other police personnel traced and arrested the prime accused, Anand Kulal. Later, they arrested Jayaram Acharya, who had purchased the stolen gold. The police recovered 39 grams of gold worth approximately Rs 5.60 lakh from the them.
