The demographic cycle is divided into five phases. India is in the third phase, where birth rate is higher than death rate. The population of Udupi district is 11.78 lakhs. In the last ten years, the growth is 6.5 % per year. <br /><br />Awareness<br /><br />There is need to create awareness regarding female sex ratio in the district as Udupi district has recorded lowest female sex ratio in the state with 914 females for 1000 males, he added.<br /><br />Delivering a talk, resource person Manipal University Public Health Department HOD, Dr Ramachandra Kamath opined population explosion is a global problem. The population of the world today stands at 6.01 Billion and is expecting to reach 7 billion shortly. China, India, USA, Indonesia and Brazil are the highest contributors for the population growth across the globe. India is hoping to overtake China by 2030. <br /><br />Literacy<br /><br />Female literacy and two child norm is the best solutions for checking the growth of population.<br /><br />“We should be cautious over maintaining balanced female sex ratio. However by 2026, <br />the number of senior citizens will be more in the country. The population density in Bangalore is 4,000 per kilometer and it is 304 per kilometer in Udupi,” he said<br /><br /></p>
