<p> The victim of a gang-rape in Thrissur came forward and named the four accused, all of them her husband’s “friends”, on Thursday, more than two years after the incident. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The woman and her husband appeared before the media here with their faces covered to narrate the incidents of the horrific shaming and abuse by the culprits and some of the police officials who investigated her complaint.<br /><br />The woman has named P N Jayanthan, a CPM municipal councillor from Vadakkanchery, and Bineesh, Janeesh and Shibu as accused. <br /><br />In August 2014, they reportedly asked the woman to join them on a visit to the hospital where her husband was admitted. But instead, they took her to a house on the outskirts of the city and raped her. <br /><br />The accused also threatened her with the release of videos of the rape if she went public about the incident. The woman told her husband what had happened almost a year later and a police complaint was filed only in August this year. The couple stated that the police and culprits pressured her to withdraw her complaint when she was brought to a magistrate court to record her statement. <br /><br />“They held my husband hostage in a car as I was making the statement,” she said. However, it is learnt that the complaint did not mention rape and was about Rs 3 lakh that Jayanthan owed her husband. <br /><br />‘Who gave you more pleasure?’<br /><br />The woman said her experience with the police during the investigation was as horrific as the rape itself. Some of the officials paraded her as a victim and asked her details about the rape in public, she said. “Who among the four gave you the most pleasure?” one of the officials asked her, an activist said in her Facebook post. The couple left Thrissur three months ago, but the harassment continued. “The culprits followed me even after the case was withdrawn and they threatened to release her pictures,” the victim’s husband said.<br /><br />‘Targeted for not paying up’<br /><br />Jayanthan, for his part, said he is being targeted because he refused to pay Rs 15 lakh to the couple. “They threatened to make up charges against me if I didn’t pay up. This case was followed up by the Peramangalam police and the woman had withdrawn the complaint,” he said. The CPM has decided to initiate an inquiry into the issue.<br /><br /><br /><br /></p>
