Kerala eateries to remain closed for 24 hours on May 6 in protest against LPG price hike

The Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association said that protest marches and dharnas will be organised in front of the offices of petroleum companies and central government establishments across the state.

Hotels, restaurants, bakeries, and canteens across Kerala will remain closed for 24 hours on May 6 in protest against the steep hike in cooking gas prices, the Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association (KHRA) said on Tuesday.

The association said that as part of statewide protest, online food delivery services will also be suspended for the day.

The protest has been called to demand a rollback of the LPG price hike.

KHRA said that protest marches and dharnas will be organised in front of the offices of petroleum companies and central government establishments in Kerala.

In Ernakulam, a protest dharna will be held in front of the Indian Oil Corporation office at Panampilly Nagar, which will be inaugurated by its state president, G Jayapal.

KHRA also alleged that similar protests will be held at district headquarters across the state.

Several trade bodies - the Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi, Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Samithi, All Kerala Caterers Association, and Hostel Owners Federation - have extended support to the shutdown, KHRA office-bearers said.
