Rise in voters in 3 north Kerala districts after SIR despite an overall drop in state

Thiruvananthapuram: Even as the total number of voters in Kerala came down by 8.9 lakhs after the special intensive revision (SIR), three north Kerala districts witnessed an increase in the number of voters, while all the other 11 districts witnessed a drop.

Malappuram, which is a Muslim dominated district, recorded over two lakh increase in the number of voters - from 34.13 lakh to 36.15 lakh. Kannur and Kasargod districts recorded an increase by around 47,200 and around 17,985 respectively.

The total number of NRI voters also increased to 2,23,558 from around 90,000 in 2025.

State capital Thiruvananthapuram suffered the maximum drop of around 3.2 lakh, followed by Ernakulam (Kochi) 1.83 lakh.

The final electoral roll of Kerala after special intensive revision was formally published on Saturday. The total number of voters has come down from 2,78,50,855 to 2,69,53,644.

Among the 2,69,53,644 voters, females are more with 1,38,27,319 while the number of male voters is 1,31,26,048 and 277 transgenders.

While women outnumber men in all districts, in Malappuram district which has the highest number of voters, men outnumber women. The total voters of Malappuram is 36,15,970 of which 18,10,627 are male and 18,05,303 female and 40 third-gender.

Thiruvananthapuram district has the highest number of third-gender voters, 54. Kasargod assembly constituency has the same number of male and female voters, 1,04,866.

Among the NRI voters, 1,90,090 are males, 33,458 females and ten third gender. Kozhikode district has the highest number of NRI voters, 57679.
