<p>Mumbai: The shops and establishments on Mira Road suburbs observed a day-long bandh over the assault of a local businessman. </p><p>This came days before Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray's victory rally in Mumbai over the state government withdrawing two GRs on introducing Hindi in primary education</p><p>Earlier this week, MNS workers assaulted Babulal Khimaji Choudhary, the owner of Jodhpur Sweets and Namkeen, for not speaking Marathi. “They said that I need to know Marathi if I have to work and then thrashed me,” he said. </p><p>The confrontation began with MNS questioning the owner about his use of language. The owner humorously responded that he didn't know Marathi was mandatory, which angered the workers.</p> .<p>A video of the incident has gone viral on social media platforms. </p><p>The Kashimira police station has registered an FIR into the incident. </p><p>In another incident, former MP Rajan Vichare of Shiv Sena (UBT) had summoned traders to his office, where they were allegedly beaten by his supporters and forced to apologise for not speaking Marathi.</p><p>Meanwhile, minister of state for home and revenue Yogesh Kadam said that disrespect to Marathi would not be tolerated. “The government will not tolerate disrespect towards Marathi language,” he said, adding: “In Maharashtra, you have to speak Marathi. If you don't know Marathi, your attitude shouldn't be that you won't speak Marathi... If anyone disrespects Marathi in Maharashtra, we will enforce our laws.” </p>
