CBI raids 17 Mumbai locations linked to Anil Ambani-led Reliance ADA Group in Rs 27,337 crore fraud probe

Mumbai: In a major swoop, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has raided 17 locations in Mumbai linked to the three cases registered against Anil Ambani led-Reliance ADA Group companies — Reliance Telecom Ltd, Reliance Commercial Finance Ltd and  Reliance Home Finance Ltd and their Directors.

It may be recalled that the CBI, during the last few months, has registered seven cases against the Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group based on the complaints lodged by various public sector banks and LIC in connection with alleged frauds involving thousands of crores of rupees. 

The total quantum of alleged loss in these cases is Rs. 27,337 crores, CBI officials said on Saturday. 

These searches on Saturday were conducted at the residential premises of Directors of the there Reliance ADA Group companies as well as at the office premises of intermediary companies whose accounts were used for diversion of bank funds.

The searches are conducted on the strength of search warrants dated 8 May 2026 issued by the Special Judge for CBI cases in Mumbai and have resulted in the seizure of incriminating documents, officials said. 

Searches have also revealed that multiple intermediary companies were operating from same address. The investigation is continuing.

CBI had, earlier, conducted searches at 14 locations in last few months, immediately after registration of these cases. 

Two senior executives of RCom — D Vishwanath, Joint President of Reliance Communications, who was overall in- charge of banking operations of the Group, and Anil Kalya, Vice President, who had actively supported D. Vishwanath in managing banking operations and payments/utilisation of funds, were arrested on 20 April 2026. Both are currently in are presently in judicial custody.

The investigation into the cases relating to the Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group is being monitored by the Supreme Court.

The group is facing investigations by the CBI as well as Enforcement Directorate. 

The CBI has registered a case against  Reliance Communications Ltd, Ambani and others on the complaint of State Bank of India (SBI), on the allegations that the bank had sanctioned credit facilities to the accused company but due to the fraudulent activities of the accused borrowers, then bank had to suffer wrongful loss of around Rs. 2929.05 crores.

As per the complaint filed by SBI, a wrongful loss of Rs.19,694.33 crores has beencaused to 17 public sector banks /financial institutions.
