Counting underway for Zilla Parishad, Panchayat Samiti polls in Maharashtra

Counting of votes for elections to 12 Zilla Parishads and 125 Panchayat Samitis in Maharashtra began on Monday morning.

The elections, originally scheduled for February 5, were held on February 7 after being postponed due to the death of deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash and the subsequent three days of state mourning.

There are 731 members to be elected in these 12 zilla parishads. In 125 panchayat samitis there are 1,462 members to be elected.

The 12 zilla parishads, which are well within the 50% quota limit, include Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, and Kolhapur (Western Maharashtra), Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg (Konkan), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Parbhani, Dharashiv and Latur (Marathwada).

The NCP and NCP (SP) have contested together under clock symbol.
