How did Saif's attacker evade high security systems at Bandra building? Day after knifing, questions remain

Mumbai: A day after Saif Ali Khan repulsed and escaped a murderous attack, the police fanned out team of detectives across multiple locations even as several questions emerged than answers about the chain of events during the dead of night at the actor’s posh home in Bandra area of Mumbai.

Meanwhile, the 54-year-old actor, who underwent an emergency surgery at the Lilavati Hospital & Research centre, is doing fine and is expected to be discharged in the next two to three days.

Hours after the attack on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, the Bandra police station and the Crime Branch-CID launched massive investigations to track down the intruder and other possible culprits behind the attack during which the Bollywood actor sustained half a dozen stab wounds including one on his spine.

The attack took place in Satguru Sharan apartments, the 12-storey building in the posh Bandra locality that houses the actor's four-floor residence.

On Friday, a suspect was brought to the police station, however, he was released after brief detention and questioning.

According to latest reports, one team is also camping in the Vasai-Virar area of neighbouring Palghar district - as reports suggest that he had boarded a local train bound for the suburbs.

The suspect has been captured in the CCTV installed in one of the floors of the tower.

One of the key aspects that is being questioned is the role of the security system of the building at the security guards - and how the intruder escaped the multi-layered access-controlled security system. Besides, how did the intruder reach the 12th floor, where the actor stays among the four floors.

“It is evident that the person would have done some kind of reconnaissance,” sources said, adding: “Even if he has reached the 12th floor, how did he get inside and how after the attack he walked out and fled without being noticed by the security guards.”

Independent security experts have said that there are loopholes in the security system of the building which houses the V̛IP-couple.

The police team are recording the statements of the househelps, caretakers and workers in the apartments - to piece together what exactly happened past midnight.

According to reports, Saif Ali Khan, his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan and their sons Taimur and Jehangir were at home when the incident took place.

“The demand of Rs one crore from the family too is surprising when he is armed with a knife and came with the intention of robbery,” the sources said.

As part of the investigations, people have extensively photographed the crime scene, collected forensic evidence and also deployed the dog squad.
