Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis backs bulldozer action in state

Mumbai: Justifying the ‘bulldozer action’ being carried out in Maharashtra, modelled on the 'bulldozer culture' of Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that his state is governed by the law.

"Those who do not follow the law will be subjected to bulldozer action, and this will continue,” he said. 

Fadnavis said that he does not speak for any particular state, but in Maharashtra, where the rule of law prevails, bulldozer action is taken against anyone who does something wrong or acts beyond the law. 

“However, we have used the bulldozer after issuing a notice under the rules, not by targeting anyone. Anyone who does wrong will be prosecuted, and the bulldozer will continue to operate,” he clarified. 

Speaking at a function organized by NDTV Marathi Manch on the women's empowerment of Maharashtra, he said several women personalities who have made significant contributions in their respective fields shared their views on the topic of women's empowerment and women's health.

Speaking of women's reservation, he said women's participation will not increase unless reservation is provided. 

“Just like in education and employment, the Modi government tried to introduce the Nari Shakti Bill to increase the number of women in politics, but the opposition prevented its success,” he said. 

He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had provided a logical solution for the Nari Shakti Bill, but the opposition did not actually want it passed. However, after the massive defeat in the West Bengal elections, many parties in the country have realised they cannot play politics by ignoring women.

“Many different political parties are now preparing to support it. It will be passed, and women's reservation will be implemented in 2029. It is hoped that Maharashtra's opposition parties will come to their senses and vote in support of this initiative,” he said.
