<p>Mumbai: Rattled by the maritime accident off the Gateway of India involving a passenger ferry and a speedboat, the Mumbai police and Indian Navy would conduct a thorough probe. </p><p>“The incident would be investigated by (Mumbai) Police and (Indian) Navy," Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told reporters in the Vidhan Bhavan complex in Nagpur, where the winter session is underway. </p>.13 dead, 101 rescued after Navy speed-boat rams into ferry off Mumbai coast.<p>Fadnavis and Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar reviewed the situation emerging from the accident off the busy Mumbai coast. </p><p>“The Indian Navy craft undergoing engine trials lost control and collided with a passenger ferry Neel Kamal off Karanja,” the Mumbai-headquartered Western Naval Command said. </p><p>Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed shock over the incident. "Deeply saddened by the loss of precious lives in the collision between passenger ferry and Indian Navy craft in Mumbai Harbour. Injured personnel, including naval personnel and civilians from both vessels, are receiving urgent medical care. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Extensive search & rescue efforts are ongoing by the Indian Navy and Coast Guard, deploying multiple assets, to locate missing persons,” he said. </p>.<p>At the time of going to Press, 13 people were reported dead while five others were missing. </p><p>Of these 10 were civilians, one from the Navy and two others from the original equipment manufacturer. </p><p>Over 100 persons were rescued by the police. </p><p>The incident took place off Karanja in Uran in the Raigad district when the boat was on its way from Gateway of India to Elephanta Island - a distance of around nine nautical miles. </p><p>According to Fadnavis, the new engine in the craft which had six people on board was being tested when it went out of control. </p><p>The Yellow Gate police station is carrying out the primary investigations.</p>
