<p>Mumbai: A day after a thunderstorm hovered over Mumbai, the financial capital and its suburbs experienced intermittent rainfall throughout the day bringing the mercury down - giving a much-needed relief to the people from sweltering heat and humidity on Wednesday. </p><p>There was no impact of the rains on Mumbai’s lifeline - the suburban trains of the Central Railway and Western Railway. </p><p>However, the road traffic movement on arterial roads was a bit slow. </p><p>Daily commuters were totally caught unawares during the morning and evening rush hours because of the rainfall. </p><p>The IMD’s Mumbai-based Regional Meteorological Centre had forecast rains and thundershowers for the day. </p><p>“Partly cloudy sky with thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty wind 50-60 kmph at isolated places. Possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated places in suburbs. This feature is drawing a strong stream of moist southwesterly winds all along the Konkan and South Gujarat coast. Rains have been heavy in Gujarat and light to moderate around Mumbai. Matheran, Dahanu, Navi Mumbai, Colaba, and other suburbs witnessed showers last night. The cyclonic circulation will now shift over the Northeast Arabian Sea, closer to the coast of Saurashtra and South Gujarat. This will persist over the region with marginal drift, left and right, but staying in the close proximity of the Konkan coast,” according to Skymet Weather.</p><p>According to Rushikesh Agre, who tracks Mumbai rains, there was an ‘Orange Alert’ for Thane and Palghar districts. </p><p>“Due to continued moisture feed from North Arabian sea; parts of South Gujarat and North Konkan, North Madhya Maharashtra would get rainfall with thunderstorms and strong winds. Sky over Gujarat, Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh and North Maharashtra would remain cloudy too,” said KS Hosalikar, former Head of IMD Pune. </p><p><strong>Pre-monsoon airport maintenance</strong> </p><p>The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has scheduled its annual pre-monsoon runway maintenance on 8 May (Thursday) between 1100 hrs and 1700 hrs. During this time, both the primary runway 09/27 and secondary runway 14/32 will be temporarily non-operational. “CSMIA has meticulously coordinated this maintenance with multiple stakeholders, including airlines and aviation authorities, to enable a seamless experience for passengers. This proactive approach reflects CSMIA’s commitment to safety, efficiency, and reliability in its operations,” a Mumbai airport spokesperson said. </p>
