TCS Nashik | Police files 1,500-page chargesheet in assault case

Mumbai: Months after the alleged sexual harassment and religious conversion case involving employees of IT major Tata Consultancy Services at its Nashik BPO snowballed into a major issue, the police filed a 1,500-page chargesheet on Friday.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Nashik Police is investigating the sensitive case, often referred to as ‘corporate jihad’.

The police had registered nine FIRs between March 26 and April 3—one at Deolali Camp and eight at Mumbai Naka police stations—based on complaints by nine junior employees alleging sexual abuse, harassment and religious coercion.

The police have so far arrested eight persons in the case.

In the first chargesheet, the police named five accused—Danish Ejaz Sheikh, Tausif Bilal Attar, Nida Ejaz Khan and Matin Majid Patel—based on the investigations into the FIR related to the Deolali Camp police station.

In the chargesheet, the SIT has mentioned details of WhatsApp chats, digital evidence and documents allegedly linked to identity/name-change procedures.

Matin Patel, who is acorporator of the AIMIM, and accused of harbouring Nida Khan at his house in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar while she was absconding, has been named in the first chargesheet.

The accused were booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 61(2) (criminal conspiracy), 64 (rape), 68 (sexual intercourse by a person in authority), 69 (sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means), 46 (abetment), 75 (sexual harassment), 318 (4) (cheating), 299 (hurting religious feelings), 249 (harbouring offender) along with provisions of the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
