Major Nikhil Handa, arrested for purportedly killing a fellow Army officer's wife, had befriended another woman, whom he had called after committing the crime, through a dating site, a senior police officer said on Wednesday.

The 40-year-old Army Major, who was arrested from Meerut on Sunday for killing Major Amit Dwivedi's wife Shailza Dwivedi (35), not only had several fake Facebook accounts but also used to befriend women on dating sites through fake profiles.

He had befriended a woman, a resident of Patel Nagar, through a dating site around a couple of years ago. The woman, who had come out of a bad marriage, had become a close confidante of Handa, the officer, who is privy to the probe, said.

The woman was aware that Handa was married and also knew about Shailza, though she had not met her. The woman was questioned by the police since she was the first person Handa had called after allegedly killing Shailza.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vijay Kumar said the woman told them the accused expressed his anger after killing Shailza, whereas she did not say much, and also did not believe that he had killed someone.

Meanwhile, Kumar said Handa had been misleading them even as he was being taken to Meerut on Wednesday to ascertain the places he had visited after committing the crime.

Handa was furnishing incorrect information, he said.

The officer said Handa had met his brother after the incident and they travelled from CR Park to Akshardham in the former's car.

His brother told the police that Handa had said he was involved in a road accident and did not mention to him about the killing of the woman.

The police officer said they took Handa to a couple of places in Delhi and Meerut where he claimed to have dumped the weapon used to slit the woman's neck, but it was yet to be found.

Police are also yet to recover a towel which Handa claimed he had burnt after using it to wipe the bloodstains of his car.
