<p>A study done in collaboration with the European Union recommended stricter implementation of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act to curb female foeticide. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The study identified the issue of ‘missing girls’ in Indian population as the major concern. <br /><br />It also suggested changes in socio-cultural behaviour for the inclusion of ‘missing girls’ in the Indian population. <br /><br />The study conducted by Plan India, a part of the US-based NGO Plan International, presented a bleak scenario of achieving sustainable development goals of United Nations in 2030 as far as gender equality is concerned. The study was funded by the EU.<br /><br />The study recommended that the implementation of PCPNDT should be done “through well-defined planning, strategy and monitoring mechanisms at district level with greater awareness of various government schemes and laws”.<br /><br /> The recommendation is significant in the wake of the recent suggestion of holding parents responsible for sex-selective abortions. <br /><br />The idea was met with great resistance as it was thought to be in favour of doctors and clinics involved in sex determination during pregnancy and consequent female foeticide.<br /></p>
