Ahead of municipal polls in Odisha, Nitin Nabin to hold meetings with core committee

New Delhi: To prepare for the BJP government’s first electoral test in the upcoming municipal polls in Odisha, party president Nitin Nabin is on a two-day tour to the eastern state. The saffron party had won the state in 2024 from a 24-year-rule by the Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal.

Nabin, who reached Bhubaneswar on Sunday, held meetings with several BJP leaders including Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo and Pravati Parida, Odisha BJP president Manmohan Samal, organising secretary Manas Mohanty, besides Union ministers Jual Oram and Dharmendra Pradhan, as well as national vice-president Baijayant Panda.

“He asked party workers to ensure that the bridge between party and government remains productive, and that party workers carry out awareness campaigns of the government’s schemes and welfare measures, and thereby ensure the government’s presence among the people. He also said that, on the other hand, party-workers must bring in front of the government public issues before the government for timely solutions,” said MP Pratap Sarangi.

In his meeting, Nabin also emphasised on the need to win the urban body polls as well as the municipal polls effectively, with large margins. “He asked us to work on effective plans to win the upcoming elections to consolidate the party’s position in the state,” Sarangi added.

On Monday, he also launched an exhibition of the Prashikshan Varg (a local training unit of the party), and is scheduled to hold organisational review meetings as well as a meeting with the state unit’s core committee. A training camp is being organised during his stay, as well as discussions on expanding the party’s network.

During his stay, Nabin visited the Jagannath Temple in Puri on Monday, following which, he took part in a religious programme at the residence of party’s key spokesperson Sambhit Patra. Nabin also held meetings with State Office Bearers and Morcha Presidents. Later in the evening, he chaired a key meeting with members of the Council of Ministers of Odisha.
