<p> Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's aerial inspection of flood-hit Tamil Nadu, Navy has sent two more ships from Vishakhapatnam to Chennai with more relief material and dewatering pumps.<br /><br /></p>.<p>As rescue operations are in full swing, more than 5,000 marooned people have been rescued by the Army and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) so far with support from the IAF and Navy in “Operation Madad”. <br /><br />The ships, INS Shakti and INS Sahyadri, left Vishakhapatnam on Thursday evening and is expected to reach Chennai on Friday.<br /><br />With the civilian airport out of action at least till December 6, the naval base INS Rajali at Aarkonam is now functioning as makeshift airport. <br /><br />The naval base, however, has limitation for commercial flights as pilots of many commercial liners are not used to flying from a military base with limited instrumentation, explained a Navy officer.</p>
