PM Modi chairs Cabinet Committee on Security meet amid West Asia war

This meeting is being attending by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a Cabinet Committee on Security meet on Wednesday at his official residence in 7, Lok Kalyan Marg to discuss important developments amid the West Asia conflict.

This meeting was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

This meeting comes on the heels of escalating tensions arising from US-Israel war against Iran, which has caused an energy supply crunch due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

During the meet, the Cabinet Secretary briefed regarding the actions taken to ensure the supply of petroleum products, particularly LNG and LPG, and sufficient power availability for the general public.

He also said that sources are being diversified for procurement of LPG with new inflows from different countries. LNG too is being sourced from different countries.

During the meet, they also reviewed steps taken to keep essential commodity prices stable and directed action against hoarding, black-marketing.

In order to monitor and interact with states and union territories regarding prices and enforcement of Essential Commodities Act, the government has set up control rooms.

PM Modi also called for all-out efforts to protect citizens from impact of conflict. He discussed the availability of fertilisers in the country and steps being taken to ensure its availability in the Kharif and Rabi seasons.

The prime minister also stated that in order to battle rumor-mongering public information must come out in a smooth and timely manner.
