<p>Ahmedabad: Responding to the claims of Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over the recent trade deals with the United States, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday claimed that "Rahul Gandhi was lying and misleading farmers of the country." The Union minister claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has "fully protected the interests of farmers and there was no need to worry."</p><p>Shah said this while launching the Central Bank Digital Currency-based Public Distribution System at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. "I have come to say to the farmers of the country from this stage that Rahul Gandhi is lying and misleading farmers of the country. In the trade deals with England, European Union and America, Modi ji has ensured protection of farmers."</p><p>"What lies are you spreading, Rahul Gandhi... that the Modi government has ruined the dairy sector. Modi ji has only ensured the safety of the dairy sector. Similarly, doors have been opened for fishermen, livestock rearers and farmers to the global. Stating that farmers "deserved clarity", he posted five pointed questions and sought answers from the government.</p><p>Raising five specific questions to prime minister Modi, he asked questions about allowing import of DDG (dried distillers' grains) used for animal feed derived from genetically modified (GM) corn and whether it will "effectively integrate our dairy chain with the US agricultural system?" He also raised questions regarding imports of GM soya oil and how soya growers in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and across the country will survive price shock.</p>
