'Remain as steadfast as ever to defeat terrorism': PM Modi as India marks one year of Operation Sindoor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday recounted the courage of the armed forces, as the nation commemorated the one year anniversary of Operation Sindoor.

Recognising the significance, he commended their precision and bravery, saying they gave a "fitting response to those who dared to attack" Indian citizens at the Pahalgam attack.

He wrote, "Today, a year later, we remain as steadfast as ever in our resolve to defeat terrorism and destroy its enabling ecosystem."

"A year ago, our armed forces displayed unparalleled courage, precision and resolve during #OperationSindoor. They gave a fitting response to those who dared to attack innocent Indians at Pahalgam. The entire nation salutes our forces for their valour," he wrote on his X handle.

Taking to social media, the Prime Minister's post read, "Operation Sindoor reflected India’s firm response against terrorism and an unwavering commitment to safeguarding national security. It also highlighted the professionalism, preparedness and coordinated strength of our armed forces."

"At the same time, it showcased the growing jointness among our forces and underlined the strength that India’s quest for self-reliance in the defence sector has brought to our national security," he wrote.

He also shared a video, highlighting the victory acheived by the soldiers a year back on this day.

Modi also changed the display image on his social media handles to Operation Sindoor as tribute.

Earlier, the Indian Air Force shared a video recalling the moments of the Operation, as clip began the Prime Minister's speech where he says, "India will identify, track, and punish every terrorist and their backers."

On May 7, 2025, India launched Operation Sindoor, in response to the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack that resulted in the death of 26 civilians. The armed forces executed airstrikes on nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, eliminating at least 100 terrorists.

The measure triggered an escalation in tensions with Pakistan launching retaliatory strikes, though most of them were obstructed by the Indian military.

The hostilities ceased with an understanding on halting the military actions on May 10, following talks between army personnel of the two sides.
