<p>Thiruvananthapuram: Russian firm Rewort Brewery has tendered an apology for using the image of <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/mahatma-gandhi">Mahatma Gandhi</a> on their <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/world/russian-beer-brand-features-mahatma-gandhis-image-on-can-sparks-outrage-3406005">beer can</a>.</p><p>In an e-mail to Kerala-based Mahatma Gandhi National Foundation, the Russian firm said that the image was used without the desire to offend anyone. The firm also informed that the production of the brand was stopped about one year back and it would try to recall the rest from sale.</p><p>The picture of the beer can with the image of Mahatma Gandhi appeared on social media recently. As many as 5,001 protest cards were sent to the embassy, said Eby J Jose who heads the foundation.</p><p>Jose said that an email was received from Rewort Brewery on Monday tendering an apology and assuring to withdraw the remaining stock from the market.</p>.<p>Jose said that the foundation, which is based at Kottayam district, had earlier made similar efforts against the use of Mahatma Gandhi's pictures in alcohol bottles in Israel and the Czech Republic and such efforts were fruitful.</p>
