'Prepared for what — leadership, or its absence?': Tamil Nadu CM Stalin slams PM Modi for 'LPG unpreparedness'

M K Stalin had flagged issues such as safety and evacuation of Tamils in West Asia, urgent facilitation of transit visas, coordinated evacuation, and additional flights for the safe return of stranded persons.

As the ongoing West Asia conflict enters fourth week, LPG crisis continue to persist in the country.

Amid this, M K Stalin on Tuesday criticised Narendra Modi over what he described as a lack of preparedness in ensuring LPG availability, asserting that “preparedness cannot be outsourced to the people.”

His remarks came in response to the Prime Minister’s call for the country to stay ready to deal with the impact of the ongoing West Asia conflict, similar to how it handled the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

In a post on X, Tamil Nadu CM questioned the Centre’s approach, asking, “Prepared for what — leadership, or its absence?” Stalin, who is also the party president, further said, “Who should be prepared? Is it the union government or the people?”

He added, “preparedness cannot be outsourced to the people...why were you not prepared to protect us?”

In a statement, Stalin said he had earlier written to the Prime Minister, urging immediate measures to ensure uninterrupted LPG supply for domestic, commercial and industrial users in Tamil Nadu.

He said he had urged the Centre to review the natural gas allocation system for power plants under the Natural Gas (Supply Regulation) Order, 2026, to ensure sufficient supply ahead of the peak summer power demand.

He also highlighted concerns regarding the safety and evacuation of Tamils stranded in West Asia, calling for swift action on transit visas, coordinated evacuation efforts and additional flights to bring them back safely.
