<p> The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday suspended senior IPS officer Archana Ramasundaram, within hours of her assuming charge as the Additional Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation in New Delhi.<br /><br /></p>.<p>A government order (GO) stated: “Disciplinary proceedings against Archana Ramasundaram are contemplated now. Therefore, the government, in exercise of the powers hereby, places her under suspension. It is further ordered that during the period that this order remains in force, the headquarters of Archana shall be in Chennai,” the order said.<br /><br />According to sources, the state government had not given the formal permission on her request to be relieved from the current posting as Director General of Police/Chairperson, Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services’ Recruitment Board. <br /><br />In February, the 56-year-old officer’s name was cleared by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. She had written to the state home secretary requesting him to relieve her. <br /><br />Before a decision could be taken, the model code of conduct for the general elections came into force.</p>
