Tremors felt in Delhi, parts of north India as earthquake measuring 5.9 strikes Hindu Kush in Afghanistan

An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 struck Afghanistan's Hindu Kush region, German ​Research Centre ⁠for Geosciences (GFZ) said on Friday. The ‌quake ‌was at a depth of 177 ⁠km (110 ⁠miles), it added.  

The tremors were felt in several parts of northern India, including Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Haryana, PTI reported citing officials. It was also felt in Pakistan capital Islamabad and Afghanistan capital Kabul.

The tremors, which lasted a few seconds, occurred around 9:45 pm. There were no immediate reports of any damage in India.

“I felt a strong jolt which lasted for a few seconds," Baldev Chand, a Chandigarh resident who lives in a flat, told PTI.

Ajay Kumar, who lives on the 11th floor of a residential building in Zirakpur, Punjab, told PTI, “The tremors lasted for a few seconds. We thought of rushing down but the tremors stopped soon.”
