'Useless question': Ishan Kishan on Kirti Azad's criticism of Team India's temple visit after world cup win

Cricketer Ishan Kishan was seemingly annoyed after being asked about TMC MP and former cricketer Kirti Azad's comment on team India's temple visit after winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Kishan reacted sharply when asked about his views on Azad shaming those who took the trophy with them to the temple.

"We have won the world cup. What can I comment on what Kirti Azad said? Ask something better. You asked a useless question," Kishan responded to a reporter during his interaction at Patna airport on Tuesday.

Azad triggered a controversy by lashing out at team India after skipper Suryakumar Yadav along with head coach Gautam Gambhir and Chairman of International Cricket Council (ICC) Jay Shah visited a Hanuman temple in Ahmedabad with the trophy on Monday.

"SHAME ON TEAM INDIA! When we won the World Cup under Kapil Dev in 1983, we had Hindu Muslim Sikh and Christian in the team. We brought the trophy to our religious birth place our motherland India Bharat Hindustan," Azad posted on X.

"Why The Hell Is The Indian Cricket Trophy is being Dragged. Why NOT a Mosque? Why NOT a Church? Why NOT a Gurudwara?" he further wrote saying the team "represents India — not Surya Kumar Yadav's or Jay Shah's Family!"

His remarks drew criticism from former cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh who told ANI - "It's absurd that someone is politicising the players taking the trophy to a temple...Kirti himself is a former cricketer, so I didn't expect him to say such a thing...Perhaps he's prioritising politics more and has forgotten he's a sportsman."
