Kanpur double murder: Uttar Pradesh man kills twin daughters, says he was worried he would not live long

Lucknow: In a shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur, a man allegedly killed his twin daughters on Saturday.

According to the police sources here, the man, identified as Shashi Ranjan Mishra, first strangled his daughters and then slit their throats in the wee hours of Saturday at his apartment in Kidwai Nagar area in the town.

Shashi Ranjan’s wife Resham was sleeping in another room with her six year old son while the daughters, 11-year old Riddhi and Siddhi, were sleeping with their father.

Sources said that Shashi Ranjan first strangled Siddhi as she was the stronger of the two and he suspected that she could shout for help if he killed the other one first. Police said that the twins were killed at an interval of one hour.

Some reports said that he, as part of plan, he gave them food laced with sedatives at dinner on Friday night.

Shashi Ranjan, who was arrested, showed no remorse and claimed that he was under ‘depression’ and that thought that he would not live long and was concerned that his daughters would not be looked after well by his wife after his death.

Resham said that her husband took drugs and had attacked her with a knife two years back. A complaint was then lodged with the police but the matter was resolved mutually.

Police sources said that Shashi Ranjan, a sales manager with a pharmaceutical company, had bought a ‘chapad’ (a sharp edged cutting tool) from the market a few days back and had plans to kill his daughters.
