Man kills pregnant wife for wearing a ‘T-shirt’, dies by suicide in Uttar Pradesh

According to the police sources, the man, identified as Shadab, a resident of Mukaripur village in the district, had married one Nikhat, a resident of Mumbai, after a brief affair around six months back.

In a shocking incident, a man allegedly strangled his pregnant wife to death following a dispute with her over wearing a lower and T-shirt before dying by suicide in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district.

According to the police sources, the man, identified as Shadab, a resident of Mukaripur village, married Nikhat, a resident of Mumbai, after a brief affair around six months ago.

As Nikhat was used to modern life style, she was having problems adjusting to the life of the village and the couple often used to fight over dressing, sources said.

Their bodies were recovered from their room a couple of days back. While Nikhat was lying on the bed, Shadab’s body was hanging from the fan.

The police initially took it as a case of suicide but upon investigating their WhatsApp chat, they found that Shadab was upset over wearing of lower and T-shirt by his wife and had warned her over the same. Nikhat, however, refused to wear the traditional dresses stating that she liked wearing lower and T-shirts.

‘’In our community, girls don’t wear such clothes (lower-T-shirt)... .you will have to stop wearing them if you want to live with me,’’ Shadab had told his wife in one of the chats.

‘’I am not the one who will remain confined to a room,’’ Nikhat replied to the chat, police sources said.

Sources said that Shadab first strangled his wife and later hanged himself with a rope from the ceiling fan in his room.
