<p>Lucknow: A pall of gloom descended on a small village in <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/india/uttar-pradesh">Uttar Pradesh’s</a> Barabanki district after Iran’s Supreme Leader<a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/search?q=Khamenei"> Ayatollah Ali Khamenei </a>was killed in air strikes carried out by Israeli and US forces.</p><p>The village shares an ancestral link with Ayatollah Ruhollah Musavi Khomeini, Khamenei’s mentor and the founding father of the Islamic Republic.</p><p>The killing triggered a wave of anger and grief among the residents of Kintur village in the district, where Khomeini’s grandfather, Syed Ahmed Musavi Hindi, was born.</p>.Shock and sorrow in Alipur village of Karnataka's Chikkaballapur as Ayatollah Ali Khamenei killed in US, Israel strikes.<p>According to locals, Khomeini’s ancestors migrated from Kintur to Najaf, an important Shia pilgrimage centre, and later to the Iranian city of Khomeyn in the 19th century.</p><p>A villager said they were shocked when they heard about Khamenei’s death. “We are mourning his loss… we are praying for the well-being of all Indians currently in Iran,” he added.</p><p>Locals recalled that there were once more than 500 homes belonging to the Musavi family. Over time, many families migrated and settled elsewhere, and today only five such homes remain.</p><p>Reports said that the Khomeini family played an important role in establishing one of Lucknow’s oldest colleges.</p>
