Probe ordered after woman, newborn die after C-section performed on instructions given by doctor over phone

Lucknow: In a shocking incident, a woman and her newborn died after an alleged C-section (a surgical procedure to deliver a baby through incisions in mother’s abdomen and uterus) was performed by an untrained staff based on instructions received over mobile by the lady doctor.

The shocking incident happened at a private hospital in Ayodhya. Though the alleged incident happened a couple of days back, it came to light on Thursday after a complaint was lodged by the grieving family in this regard.

According to the reports, 32-year old Soni Yadav had been admitted to the private hospital in Ayodhya after she experienced labor pain a few days back. Her husband Suresh Yadav alleged that there was no lady doctor at the hospital when his wife was rushed to the OT following the pain on Wednesday.

He said that the doctor asked one of the staff members to conduct the delivery as per her instructions over the phone. The surgical procedure was done accordingly, the reports said.

The staff, a little later, handed over the newborn to the family saying that he was not breathing. Panicked relatives took the newborn to another hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctors.

The condition of Soni Yadav also deteriorated in the meanwhile and she too was rushed to another hospital where she was declared dead.

Senior district health officials visited the hospital and found that there were neither qualified doctors there nor trained paramedical staff.

The hospital was sealed and the in-house patients were transferred to another hospital. A probe was ordered into the matter.
