<p>Bijnor: A retired junior engineer was arrested for allegedly killing a dog by shooting it with his licensed revolver in <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/uttar-pradesh">Uttar Pradesh</a>'s Bijnor district, police said on Saturday.</p><p>Rajveer Singh, from Savitri Enclave, opened fire at the dog on Friday evening, Circle Officer of Najibabad Nitesh Pratap Singh said.</p><p>The accused was carrying a licensed revolver when he shot the dog roaming near his residence. He has been arrested and the weapon has been seized, Singh said.</p><p>Animal rights activists Anuradha Mathur and Jyoti Sharma from the Animal Friends Club have demanded cancellation of Singh's arms licence.</p>.Uttar Pradesh: Woman, lover attempt to kill husband, kids; held.<p>They said CCTV footage shows the accused brandishing the weapon before shooting the dog.</p><p>According to neighbours, LS Bisht and Rajkumar Kalra, the dog would often rest outside Singh’s house and was usually fed two rotis. The accused chased the dog and fired five bullets at it.</p><p>Police said a post-mortem of the dog is being conducted.</p><p>Lawyer Vineet Kishore Sharma said the incident falls under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.</p>
