<p>New Delhi: The elections to fill the position of the Vice-President of India after the unexpected exit of Jagdeep Dhankar may take place after the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament, which is slated to end on August 21.</p>.<p>The entire process, from notification of the elections to the counting of votes, generally takes more than a month, leaving very little window to wind up the exercise before the end of the session.</p>.<p>“The process (for the polls) has been started. But it might not be over by this Session; we have about two weeks of business before Independence Day, and three more days after it,” a source said.</p>.<p>The elections to the VP post after the resignation of the incumbent have to be conducted by the Election Commission as soon as possible after the occurrence of the vacancy. There is no stipulated time frame set in the Constitution for completing the process.</p>.Process of holding vice presidential election begun: EC.<p>While the first week has been a washout, the coming week is likely to see brisk business with the Opposition and the government locking horns over Operation Sindoor. Both Houses will have 16 hours each allotted for the discussion.</p>.<p>The government, although undecided at the moment on whether to hold a general discussion or bring in a resolution on Operation Sindoor, is looking forward to the discussion as it provides an opportunity to highlight its achievements during the operation with Pakistan.</p>.<p>Party whip Sanjay Jaiswal said the prime minister’s speech ahead of the Session was an indication enough. “The prime minister specifically spoke about Operation Sindoor during his speech; the Opposition is walking into its trap by demanding that PM Modi speaks on the matter,” the BJP chief whip said. The prime minister is likely to speak at the end of the discussion.</p>.<p>The coming week will also see the impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Verma play out.</p>
