Statue vandalism cases on rise in West Bengal

Kolkata: In less than one week since the BJP came to power in West Bengal, the state has witnessed a slew of incidents where statues and portraits of politicians and cultural icons have been vandalised or defaced.

The latest incident has been reported from the South Dinajpur, where miscreants vandalised the statues of Santhal Rebellion icons Sidhu and Kanhu Murmu on Friday night. BJP and Trinamool Congress leaders traded charges, accusing each other of the incident.

The episodes started with the vandalism of a statue of Communist icon Vladimir Lenin in Murshidabad on May 5.
