'Will focus on welfare of people in Tamil Nadu': TVK chief Vijay thanks PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi for wishes on poll win

Vijay broke the Dravidian duopoly of the DMK and the AIADMK in style by leading his two-year-old TVK to an emphatic victory in the April 23 polls to elect Tamil Nadu’s 17th Assembly.

TVK chief Vijay thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for their wishes on his party's huge win in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections.

In an X post, Vijay wrote, "Thank you, Hon'ble @PMOIndia, for your greetings. The well-being of our people remains our only goal."

"​Transcending politics, we shall focus on the State's progress and the welfare of people of Tamil Nadu. We look forward to the Union Government’s support in this endeavor," he further wrote.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a post on X had said, "Gratitude to the voters of Tamil Nadu who supported the NDA in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections. We will always remain at the forefront in addressing people’s issues and improving their lives."

"Congratulations to TVK on their impressive performance. The Centre will leave no stone unturned in furthering the progress of Tamil Nadu and the well-being of their people."

The TVK chief also thanked LoP Rahul Gandhi who congratulated him for his new party's spectacular result.

Vijay said, "My sincere thanks to the Honorable Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha for the call and kind wishes! We shall remain committed to excellence in public service, and preserving the cultural ethos of our state which requires collective cooperation. Beyond politics, we shall prioritize for the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu."

Rahul on X had said, "I spoke to Thiru Vijay and congratulated him on TVK’s spectacular result. This mandate reflects the rising voice of youth which cannot, and will not, be ignored."

"My heartfelt thanks to the Congress workers of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for their hard work and support. I reiterate that the Congress party will continue to protect and serve the people of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry," he added.

Vijay on Monday broke the Dravidian duopoly of the DMK and the AIADMK in style by leading his two-year-old Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) to an emphatic victory in the April 23 polls to elect Tamil Nadu’s 17th Assembly. 

Contesting alone, Vijay secured an impressive 35 per cent of the polled votes, surpassing the record created by the legendary M G Ramachandran, who scored about 33.5 per cent in his first election with two allies in 1977 after launching the AIADMK in a four-cornered fight.

This victory signifies the yearning for change among the people of Tamil Nadu, who had grown fatigued with the DMK and the AIADMK after they ruled the state alternately since 1967.
