Last Updated 03 February 2021, 15:54 IST

In what could spell fresh trouble for Maharashtra’s social justice minister and senior NCP leader Dhananjay Munde, the lady with whom he had a relationship has accused him of confining their two children in his official bungalow in Mumbai.

The lady, Karuna Sharma, had sent a complaint to director general of police Hemant Nagrale.

It may be recalled that last month, Karuna Sharma’s sister Renu Sharma had accused Munde of raping her. Gowever, later she withdrew her statements and complaint that she addressed to the Oshiwara police station.

An MLA from Beed, Munde (45) is the social justice and special assistance minister in the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government –and is considered close to deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar.

In her complaint, Karuna Sharma has alleged that since the last three months, Munde had confined their two children in Chitrakoot, the official bungalow of the minister.

She said that she went to the bungalow on 24 January to meet the kids, however, was prevented by the 30 to 40 police personnel posted there.

Karuna Sharma also made other allegations against Munde and his behaviour.

She also threatened to go on a hunger strike from 20 February outside Mantralaya, Chitrakoot bungalow or Azad Maidan, if police did not cooperate with her.

Demanding Munde’s expulsion from the ministry, senior BJP leader Kirit Somaiya posted the complaint on Twitter, and said: “See complaint of Mrs Karuna Dhananjay Munde against minister Dhananjay Munde, who is playing with lives of 3 women/wives. He must be expelled from ministry”.

Following the allegations of rape by Renu Sharma, the Maha Vikas Aghadi leadership was of the opinion that Munde should face a probe without expulsion from the ministry – after Mumbai city BJP vice president Krishna Hegde and MNS leader Manish Dhuri accused the woman of attempting to honey-trap them. Later, Renu Sharma withdrew the complaint.

Munde refutes allegations

Meanwhile, Munde refuted the allegations made by Karuna Sharma. "The issues between me and her are under the process of mediation in court. A mediator has been appointed by the court. Two mediation meetings have also taken place between us. The mediation includes the issue of custody of children and other issues raised by her,” Munde was quoted saying. He said that the allegations against him were baseless with an intention to defame him.
