A woman has been arrested for trying to extort Rs 5 crore in cash and Rs 5 crore in property from Maharashtra’s social justice minster and senior NCP leader Dhananjay Munde by threatening to accuse him of rape.

The woman Renu Sharma has been arrested by the Crime Branch-CID based on a complaint filed in the Malabar Hill police station.

Incidentally, Renu is sister of Karuna Sharma, who last year created a controversy by claiming that she is the second wife of Munde.

She was produced before a court in Indore in Madhya Pradesh and brought to Mumbai on a transit remand.

Munde is the nephew of late BJP leader and former Union rural development minister Gopinath Munde. The minister’s cousin Pankaja Munde is a senior BJP leader and former Maharashtra rural development minister.

According to the complaint, Renu tried to extort Rs 5 crore in cash and a shop worth Rs 5 crore from Munde.

The minister initially gave Rs 3 lakh, however, when the demand did not stop, he approached the police.

It may be mentioned, last week, Munde had to be admitted to a hospital because of health issues.
