'You were scared to come to the House': Congress accuses Modi of 'compromising' India over US trade deal

New Delhi: With Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacking the main opposition party over protests in Parliament and at AI Summit, Congress on Sunday said he should remember that protest is a right while alleging that he "compromised" India's interest by giving the green signal for the India-US trade deal.

In Meerut, Modi attacked the Congress over the women MPs leading the protest against the government in Lok Sabha and Youth Congress activists leading a "shirtless" protest at the recently concluded AI Summit.

He went on to say that "crazy leaders" were bent on destroying the country.

Responding to Modi's remarks, Congress Lok Sabha Whip Manickam Tagore said it was "very unfortunate" that the Prime Minister had forgotten that the protests in Parliament were because of not allowing Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to speak.

"For two days, he tried to speak. It was not allowed. Eight of us were suspended. When the LoP was not allowed, only then women MPs protested. You were scared to come to the House. It is not that the women MPs who belong to the Dalit and Backward Communities were misbehaving. They were protesting and protest is a right," he said.

Accusing him of being "compromised", Tagore said Modi should not demean the office of the Prime Minister while alleging that the agriculture, MSME and textile sectors have faced trouble because of his policies.

Congress Social Media and Digital Platforms Chairperson Supriya Shrinate claimed that it was Modi who had "surrendered" before the US by "compromising" on the interests of the farmers, who "handed over" data to the US and "slashed" oil purchases from Russia following Washington's pressure.

Referring to Modi's 'Mann ki Baat' address, Congress Media and Publicity Department Chairman Pawan Khera posted on 'X', "empty vessels make the most noise. Today’s brief to BJP leaders is: flood every platform with praise for Modi’s Mann ki Baat."

"They’ve been instructed to particularly glorify the AI summit. Yet, curiously, the centrepiece, the highlight, the national embarrassment - Galgotias University - found no mention in the Prime Minister’s monologue. No remorse, no apology, no assurance of higher standards in the future. And perhaps understandably so - after all announcing one’s own folly and incompetence is never easy," he said.
