Pakistan court indicts Davis for double murder

Last Updated 03 May 2018, 06:22 IST

The sessions judge court charged Davis on two counts of murder at a hearing held at the Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore, Geo News reported.

According to a report Monday, the Lahore High Court dismissed petitions claiming diplomatic immunity for Davis after the foreign ministry admitted that they have no record of his diplomatic status.

If convicted, Davis could face a death penalty.

Davis, 36, shot dead two Pakistanis on a motorcycle in Lahore Jan 27 following what he described as an attempted armed robbery. He claimed that he acted in self-defence.

The Raymond Davis affair has strained ties between the US and Pakistan. The US says Davis has diplomatic immunity and should be repatriated. But Pakistan has maintained that the case is in court and it will be decided as per the law of the land.
