JOIN USPakistan calls back envoy from India amid tensions
On Monday, Islamabad called back its envoy to New Delhi, Sohail Mahmood, for consultation, as tension between the two neighbours escalated in the aftermath of the deadly attack carried by Pakistan-based terror organization Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) convoy at Jammu and Kashmir state of India.
"We have called back our High Commissioner in India for consultations. He left New Delhi this morning," Mohammed Faisal, a spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan Government, tweeted.
Mahmood left New Delhi for Islamabad for consultation with senior officials of the Government of Pakistan, as New Delhi launched a diplomatic campaign to isolate Pakistan, accusing it of giving “full freedom” to the JeM and its leader Masood Azhar as well as other terror organizations to use its territory to carry out attacks in India.
It was not immediately clear as to how many days the envoy would stay in Pakistan.
India had called back its High Commissioner to Pakistan, Ajay Bisaria, to New Delhi for consultation just a day after 49 CRPF personnel were killed in the terror attack at Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir.
