The British Government has decided to ease restrictions it had earlier imposed on travel from India to the United Kingdom in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

India will be moved from the 'Red List' to the 'Amber List' of the UK government from Sunday. This will allow travellers from India to fly to the UK on visit visas, in addition to other long-term visas that had already been kept open. The travellers from India to England could complete a 10-day quarantine at home or in the place they would stay and they would not have to stay quarantined in designated hotels as mandated by the rules framed for the ones arriving from the countries on the 'Red List'.

The travellers from India to the UK would also have the option to go for the voluntary Test to Release scheme and choose to pay for a private Covid-19 test on the fifth day of the quarantine. If the result is negative, they can end their quarantine, the British High Commission in New Delhi stated.

All travellers, except children aged 10 or under, from the countries on the 'Red List' of the UK Government have to take Covid-19 tests before arriving in England, apart from booking a quarantine hotel package including two more tests and completing passenger locator forms. They have to quarantine themselves in one of the designated hotels for 10 days and take Covid-19 tests on or before the second day and on or after the eighth day.

The travellers from a country on the 'Amber List' on the other hand just have to book and pay for Covid-19 tests before arriving in the UK. They of course will also have to take a Covid-19 test in the three days before travelling to England. On arrival in England, they will have to quarantine for 10 days at home or in the place they would stay and take a Covid-19 test on or before second day and on or after eighth day.
