Jail Bharo protest in Udupi

CITU activists, including labourers and farmers, staged a Jail Bharo in front of the taluk office, demanding cancellation of the proposed amendments in labour laws, which are designed to support the corporate.

CITU district president Vishwanath Rai demanded that the labour laws be effectively introduced. “Social security should be offered to labourers, with provident fund and pension. Workers should be given houses and the minimum salary should be at least Rs 18,000. Employment generation should be prioritised. Inflation should be controlled. Farm growths should be given support price,” he added.

“The law supporting service facilities should be enabled for agriculture labourers. The Act enabling education and health rights should be introduced,” he said.

“The Central government is taking up amendments in the labour law to help the corporate. and suppress the rights of labourers. The prices of essential commodities is increasing every day. Unemployment and problems related to agriculture have widened the gap between the haves and the have nots. The government is not heeding the demands of labourers for the last one year. All attempts are made to suppress the voice of the labourers, who are at distress,” he criticised.

“CITU will take up rigorous protest in the days to come if the government continues the negligence against the labour class,” he threatened.

CITU leader Balakrishna Shetty said inflation has made it difficult for the common man to survive. “The wages of labourers should be hiked according to the price hike. The labourers are unable to bear the education expenses of their children as education is becoming expensive day after day,” he pointed out.
