Kaup taluk sees 3 tahsildars in one year

Last Updated 06 February 2019, 17:56 IST

Kaup was declared a taluk just a year ago but has already seen transfer of two tahsildars.

Currently, Udupi Tahsildar has been made the In-charge Tahsildar of Kaup. This is the third time in a span of 12 months that the Udupi tahsildar had been made the In-charge Tahsildar of Kaup.

Kaup was declared a taluk by including Kaup hobli and 30 villages surrounding it. As per the 2011 census, the taluk has a population of 1,41,098. Kaup hobli has 16 gram panchayats and 1 Town Municipal Council under its jurisdiction.

When Kaup taluk was inaugurated on February 14, 2018, Udupi Tahsildar Pradeep Kurdekar served as the In-charge Tahsildar.

From March 2018 till May, John Prakash Rodrigues served as the Tahsildar. Following Rodrigues transfer, Kurdekar was once again entrusted the responsibility of in-charge tahsildar. From July to September, Gurusiddaiah, a probationary, served as Tahsildar. After the transfer of Gurusiddaiah, once again Kurdekar was entrusted with additional charge of Kaup along with Udupi.

The taluk office is responsible for works related to issuing caste and income certificate, ration card, no objection certificate, relief under natural calamity, court cases, pension scheme, Akrama-Sakrama under Form No 57, 94C, 94CC, land conversion, land sanctioning, earmarking of land for various government programmes, land acquisition, copies of PTCL endorsement and others.

Kaup TMC member Anil Kumar said, “The problems have increased after Kaup was declared a taluk. In the past, the works could be easily done at Udupi taluk office. Now, without the tahsildar, we have to shuttle between Kaup and Udupi.”

Kumar said, “Kaup taluk has not received any basic infrastructure facility. Kaup has been declared a taluk for the sake of it. A full-fledged taluk can be created after filling the sanctioned posts. Several government departments are yet to be set up in the taluk.”

Kaup In-charge Tahsildar Pradeep Kurdekar said, ‘’Santhosh Kumar, who is serving at Sullia, has been appointed as Tahsildar of Kaup. Full-fledged works in all the 49 new taluks have not commenced yet. However, several staff members have been recruited to taluk office in Kaup.”

The posts vacant in the taluk office are--two tahsildar (grade 1, grade 2), 1 Deputy Tahsildar, 2 First grade Assistants, 3 second division assistants, 1 Group D worker, 1 driver, 5 revenue division officers.
