‘Kodagu Pravasi Utsav’ set to enthral visitors

Workers carry out last-minute preparations at Raja Seat on Thursday, for the floricultural and horticultural expo as a part of ‘Kodagu Pravasi Utsav’, to be held from Friday to Sunday.

The ‘Kodagu Pravasi Utsav’, to be launched in Madikeri on Friday, is expected to enthral visitors for three days.

The festival will offer a feast to connoisseurs of music in the form of a cultural extravaganza.

Raja Seat, one of the most favoured tourist destinations in Kodagu has been decked up for the floricultural and horticultural exhibition.

Flowers of different varieties including ‘marigold’, ‘chrysanthemum’, ‘vinca’ and ‘dahlia’ floral species planted in the park by the horticultural department were in full bloom making Raja Seat look like an exotic place.

Walk in the park

The public can walk freely into the park on all the three days of Kodagu Pravasi Utsav (10 am and 8.30 pm).

On Thursday, artisans were seen giving finishing touches to the artworks such as Cauvery idol, ‘Brahmakundike’, vegetable carvings and the model demonstrating cultivation of fruits and vegetables in ‘Jalakrishi’ pattern.

Elephants, peacocks and musical instruments carved out of vegetables and fruits such as mango, are sure to leave the visitors impressed.

Cultural events

Cultural programmes are planned on all three days of Kodagu Pravasi Utsav at Gandhi Maidan.

‘Jugalbandi’ programme by M D Pallavi and troupe will be the main attraction on the first day of the cultural programme.

The members of ‘Saregamapa Little champs’ team and ‘Dance Karnataka dance’ will be performing at the Utsav. A huge LED screen was also installed keeping public convenience in mind.

More than 30 stalls exclusively featuring Kodava cuisine have been put up near the venue.

The Department of Information and Public Relations has set up a stall to highlight the achievements of the coalition government.

Open street festival

Raja Seat Road is being readied for the open street festival planned on Sunday. Police are keen on ensuring zero traffic on the stretch by diverting traffic and facilitating free movement of people on the street.

The events organised as a part of Kodagu Pravasi Utsav aims at drawing tourists to Kodagu in huge numbers. Due to recent floods, the number of tourists making a beeline to the district had dipped.

The Utsav is expected to bring cheer to the owners of homestays and resorts who had been worried over the low turnout of tourists.
