So Afghanistan crumble in a chase yet again, though this one was much more comprehensive for them. It was a difficult wicket to bat on, with the ball not coming, and with three spinners in the opposing side, and two pacers who are essentially masters at bowling cutters, it was always going to be an uphill task to chase anything about 200-230. Bangladesh put up 262.
The openers started decently for Afghanistan, with Rahmat Shah being the aggressor while Gulbadin Naib hung around. The former fell to Shakib and then Hashmatullah Shahidi also walked after a painful innings. Shakib then got rid of the skipper Naib and the experienced Nabi in the same over, effectively derailing the chase. He picked Asghar Afghan also for good measure.
Shinwari and Najibullah put on a counter-attacking 50-run stand but the top order had taken so much time to accumulate the runs that they were left with too much to do. The latter was Shakib's fifth victim as he tried to attack and the tail was cleaned up pretty easily by the rest of the bowlers. So Bangladesh live on in the tournament, but are just about clinging on to some dear hopes of making the final four.
It was a joyful experience to get you the updates from this game, do join us tomorrow for the clash of the heavyweights as England take on Australia. Till then, goodnight and goodbye!
Saifuddin is back.
46.1 Saifuddin to Shinwari, DOT, yorker just outside off, fails to jam it out Sami
46.2 Saifuddin to Shinwari, DOT, drives this yorker to long on and refuses the single
46.3 Saifuddin to Shinwari, FOUR, that is a real effort shot. Full outside off, he powers this down the ground, long off dives to cut it off, does so initially but it trickles into the ropes
46.4 Saifuddin to Shinwari, 1 run, short and he pulls, mistimes it (are you surprised?), it lands safely though
46.5 Saifuddin to Mujeeb, DOT, full on the stumps, driven to short extra cover
46.6 Saifuddin to Mujeeb, OUT, consecutive ducks for Mujeeb. And he is out bowled out in both matches. Full pace length delivery on the stumps, he swings wildly, it was always crashing into the stumps once he decided to do that. Leaves Shinwari stranded on 49 too
Mujeeb b Saifuddin 0(4)
45.1 Mustafizur to Shinwari, 1 run, short and pulled to deep square leg
45.2 Mustafizur to Dawlat, DOT, round the wicket, angling in, punched to short cover
45.3 Mustafizur to Dawlat, DOT, full pace delivery dropped full, beats the outside edge
45.4 Mustafizur to Dawlat, OUT, just 1 wicket away now. This was the off cutter on middle stump, spinning away, too good for the tail ender, whose thin edge it catches and through to the keeper it goes
Dawlat c Rahim b Mustafizur 0(8)
Mujeeb ur Rahman is the last man in
45.5 Mustafizur to Mujeeb, DOT, plays and misses. Full and wide of off, draws him into a drive, and then beats the edge
45.6 Mustafizur to Mujeeb, DOT.
