That was a thriller though the scorecard would not suggest it. India looked to be in cruise control once Shakib fell to Pandya but Sabbir and Saifuddin thought otherwise. They took apart Shami to launch a terrific counter attack, put on a 50-run partnership but were undone by the best bowler in the world- Jasprit Bumrah.
The chase started well with Tamim looking especially in good touch, taking Bumrah and Bhuvi for a few boundaries before Shami came into the attack and took him out. Soumya then attacked for a bit before gifting his wicket to Pandya and Mushfiqur Rahim fell victim to a well-laid plan. Liton Das was doing a good job of supporting Shakib, who hit another half-century, as has been the case for most of this World Cup.
Pandya then returned to get rid of both Liton and Shakib, while Bumrah got Mosaddek in between. Sabbir and Saifuddin then joined hands to give Indians the world over a minor scare, but Bumrah as usual returned to get rid of the former. Saifuddin was not ready to accept defeat though as he hit a few more boundaries, even as Mortaza perished. However, Virat brought Bumrah on for his final over, and he got two wickets in two balls to hand the win to India.
It has been a great pleasure to get you the updates, and do join us tomorrow when New Zealand take on England in a virtual knockout. It may still not be the case if Pakistan lose but sets up a mouth-watering clash nonetheless. Till then, goodbye!
47.1 Bumrah to Saifuddin, 1 run, low full toss, flicked to deep mid wicket
47.2 Bumrah to Rubel, 1 run, length ball, chops the pull to deep mid wicket again
47.3 Bumrah to Saifuddin, FOUR, wow, he still believes! Hits this full ball straight down the ground, Virat tried his best at long on, but cannot save it. That is fifty too!
47.4 Bumrah to Saifuddin, 1 run, tucks this length ball from round the wicket to square leg
47.5 Bumrah to Rubel, OUT, classic Bumrah yorker. Too good for most batsmen, certainly too good for a no.10. Bowls it perfectly in the blockhole, Rubel had backed away exposing all stumps and Boom does not need them to hit the bullseye
Rubel b Bumrah 9(11)
The Fizz is the last man in
47.6 Bumrah to Mustafizur, OUT, gives him no chance at all. Bowls another perfect yorker on off stump, and Fizz can do nothing about it
Mustafizur b Bumrah 0(1)
Shami is back.
46.1 Shami to Rubel, DOT, full and straight but not at the stumps, so Rubel's unsuccessful swing does not hit the sticks
46.2 Shami to Rubel, 1 run, bowls a full toss while looking for the yorker, played down the ground
46.3 Shami to Saifuddin, WIDE, dug in too short this time
46.3 Shami to Saifuddin, FOUR, great shot! Shami follows him with a bouncer as he backed away, he swivels and pulls to the fine leg fence
46.4 Shami to Saifuddin, 1 run, gets it right in the blockhole now, played to long on
46.5 Shami to Rubel, DOT, another great yorker, outside off though, he cannot do anything about it
46.6 Shami to Rubel, DOT.
45.1 Bumrah to Saifuddin, DOT, slow full toss, Saif was jumping and was up there for quite a while to play to short third man
45.2 Bumrah to Saifuddin, 1 run, drives this full ball to long off
45.3 Bumrah to Rubel, FOUR, oh where did that come from? This is full, he knelt down and cross bats it straight past Boom. Held the pose for the cameras afterward
45.4 Bumrah to Rubel, 1 run, short and he wants to pull, gets an outside edge, Pant on the boundary was late to set off there. Boom asks him what that was
45.5 Bumrah to Saifuddin, 1 run, to deep mid wicket
45.6 Bumrah to Rubel, 1 run.
