Ahead of state polls, Modi launches 3 new metro lines in Mumbai

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 7 said we will not achieve the aim of doubling the economy to USD 5 trillion if our cities do not have 21st century infrastructure.

This will involve creating systems to address the concerns on mobility, connectivity, productivity, sustainability and safety, Modi told a public gathering in the city where he launched three more metro lines, taking the number of planned metro corridors to 14 extending 337 km.

With this, PM Modi's address comes to end. He will now be heading to Aurangabad where he will inaugrate Aurangabad Industrial City (AURIC) business and administrative building and dedicate the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project to the nation.

Metro lines being laid down in 27 cities: PM Modi

During his address, PM Modi said that in India the first metro was started about 30-35 years ago but until 2014 metro started in only a few cities. Now, metro lines are being laid down in 27 cities of the country, he said.

PM Modi visits Ganesh pandal in Mumbai's Vile Parle

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 7 offered prayers to Lord Ganesh in suburban Vile Parle in Mumbai. Modi, who is one a one-day visit to Maharashtra, took darshan of Lord Ganesh at the Lokmanya Seva Sangh (LSS) as part of the ongoing Ganesh festival.

The PM went straight to the suburb after landing at the international airport.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates a state-of-the-art metro coach, the first metro coach manufactured under Make in India.

In Aurangabad, the prime minister will inaugrate Aurangabad Industrial City (AURIC) business and administrative building and dedicate the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project to the nation.

Later in the day, PM Modi will also visit Aurangabad to address a state-level Mahila Saksham Melava.

PM Modi will inaugurate Bandongri Metro Station in Kandivali East and a state-of-the-art metro coach, the first metro coach under the government's flagship Make in India initiative.

The prime minister will also release a brand vision document for Maha Mumbai Metro.

Modi will also lay the foundation stone of a state-of-the-art Metro Bhavan in the city. The centre will operate and control 14 metro lines measuring around 340 km.

The three new metro lines are: a) 9.2 km-long Gaimukh to Shivaji Chowk (Mora Road) Metro-10 corridor, b) 12.7 km Wadala to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Metro-11 corridor and c) 20.7 km Kalyan to Taloja Metro-12 corridor.

The three new metro lines will add more than 42 km to the city's metro network.

Modi has arrived in Mumbai, where he was received by Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and CM Devendra Fadnavis.
