Massaging your baby

It’s a widely held belief that an oil massage plays a vital role in the growth and development of babies.

Massaging is also a fulfilling experience that strengthens the emotional bond between a mother and her baby. But before you reach out for the bottle of baby massage oil, there are a few things you need to bear in mind:

* Consult your doctor on which baby massage oil to use. Your doctor will be able to guide you in choosing the right product for your baby.

*  Baby skin is sensitive and can have an allergic reaction to certain products. Before applying the oil on your baby's body, try a small amount on her hand to see if it suits her skin. If your baby develops rashes on the applied patch then look for an alternative product.

*  Carefully read the ingredients listed on the label. Natural ingredients like olive oil and winter cherry are good for baby skin.

*  The right technique is absolutely essential. Gently pour the oil over your baby's stomach and start with soft, gentle strokes. Do not apply unnecessary force while giving the massage. It is not required and can be harmful.

*  Always keep your baby's comfort in mind. Give a massage only when your baby is feeling up to it. This will make it an enjoyable experience for your baby.

*  After a good massage, babies tend to fall asleep. Therefore, mothers need to be aware of the baby’s sleeping hours and work out a time that is best suited for their
little one. After a massage and a relaxing nap, you can give your baby a warm bath.
