Love will win, says Rahul; Modi hits back

Love will win, Congress President Rahul Gandhi said on Sunday exuding the confidence of defeating Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

Interacting with reporters after casting his vote in the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi, Rahul accused the Prime Minister of making “hatred” the premise of his poll campaign.

“Narendra Modi used hate and we used love and I think love is about to win. We will respect whatever people decide,” the Congress President said.

Rahul's sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also said she was sure of Modi's defeat as people were angry and distressed with the government.

“There is anger among people, and they are under distress. Modiji, instead of talking about real issues, has been talking about random things. And, now, they will express their anger against this government through voting,” said Priyanka, who plunged into active politics in January.

Modi hit back at Rahul accusing him of hurling “love-veiled abuses” at him every day.

“They bring dictionaries of love from all over the world and hurl abuses at me after putting a veil of love over them,” Modi said at a rally in Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh.

Rahul said three to four issues such as unemployment, agrarian distress, demonetisation and GST dominated the election campaign. He added that so far he has given a “good fight” in the elections.

However, he refused to hazard a guess on the number of seats the Congress expected to win in the Lok Sabha elections.

“People are the master. Whatever people say, we will accept. How many seats we will win, people will decide that... Jai Hind,” he said.

Priyanka hit out at the Prime Minister for not responding to the issues raised by the Congress and Rahul. “He keeps talking about pointless things and has not even responded to the challenge thrown at him by our party president,” Priyanka said.

Earlier, Rahul walked from his 12, Tughlaq Lane Residence to the polling booth located about a 300 meters away at NP Co-Ed Senior Secondary School in the adjacent Aurangzeb Lane.

Congress candidate from New Delhi Lok Sabha seat Ajay Maken accompanied Rahul to the polling booth. Later, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi exercised her franchise at a different polling booth. She was accompanied by former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who is in the fray from Delhi North East Lok Sabha seat.
