Ballot papers and arrow-mark rubber stamps were in vogue until the EVMs came.
Arrow-mark rubber stamps came into being during the 1977 Assembly election.
The new cross-mark stamp, which contains a clock-wise arrow mark would distinguish the original marking made by a voter on ballot paper from that of any smudged impression left by folding it while the mark is still wet, the EC had then said.
